Sri Lanka Tour Package Pricing Guide for Tour Operators (2026)

This Sri Lanka tour package pricing guide explains how inbound tour operators and DMCs build the price of a private, chauffeur-driven tour — the most popular way international visitors see the island. You will learn which cost items to include, how to handle driver bata and guide fees, and how to turn your costs into a clear per-person rate table.

Every figure in this article is an example. Vehicle rates, hotel prices and entrance fees change by season and supplier, so always use your own current rates.

How a typical Sri Lanka private tour is structured

A classic 7–14 day round trip combines the Cultural Triangle (Sigiriya, Dambulla, Polonnaruwa), Kandy, the hill country (Nuwara Eliya, Ella), a safari (Yala or Udawalawe) and the south coast (Galle, Mirissa). The customer travels in a private air-conditioned vehicle with a chauffeur or chauffeur-guide, staying in a different hotel every one to three nights.

Because the route, hotels and group size change for every customer, each quote has to be costed individually. That is why a reliable pricing method is essential.

1. Vehicle cost: kilometres × rate per km

Transport is normally priced by distance. Add up the driving kilometres for every day — including airport transfers and any detours — and multiply by your supplier's rate for the vehicle type:

Group sizeTypical vehicle
1–2 travellersCar
3–5 travellersFlat-roof van
4–8 travellersHigh-roof van
9–20 travellersMini coach
20+ travellersCoach

Roads through the hill country are slow, so also note the drive time — it affects how many sites fit into a day and whether you need an extra night.

2. Driver bata, chauffeur-guide and national guide fees

On top of the vehicle cost, most operators add a daily allowance for the driver, known as driver bata. If the driver is a licensed chauffeur-guide, a higher daily fee applies. For premium or larger groups, a separate national guide and an assistant may be added. Remember to include the driver's accommodation where hotels charge for it.

3. Hotels by meal plan and room type

Hotels quote per room per night on a bed and breakfast (BB), half board (HB) or full board (FB) basis. Convert to per-person prices:

  • DBL per person = room rate ÷ 2
  • SGL per person = full room rate (the difference is the single supplement)
  • TPL per person = triple room rate ÷ 3

Watch for peak-season surcharges (December–April on the west and south coast) and compulsory gala dinners at Christmas and New Year.

4. Entrance fees and activities

Cultural sites, national parks and activities are charged per person, often in USD for foreign visitors. A cultural round trip can include several paid sites, so entrance fees can be a significant part of the per-person cost. Typical items include:

  • Sigiriya Rock Fortress and Dambulla Cave Temple
  • Temple of the Tooth Relic, Kandy
  • National park entry and safari jeep (Yala, Udawalawe, Minneriya)
  • Tea factory visits, train tickets on the Kandy–Ella line, whale watching in Mirissa

Always confirm current fees before quoting and decide whether children's prices apply.

5. Markup, commission and currency

Add all costs, then apply your markup. If you sell through overseas agents, decide whether their commission comes from your margin or is added on top. Because many suppliers are paid in LKR while customers pay in USD, EUR or GBP, record the exchange rate used in each quote and keep a small buffer.

Sample route and pricing structure

DayRouteApprox. km
1Airport → Sigiriya168
3Sigiriya → Kandy92
5Kandy → Ella138
6Ella → Yala110
7Yala → Galle165
8Galle → Airport148

For this route you would price the vehicle on roughly 820+ km, add bata for 8 days, seven hotel nights across five hotels, and the entrance fees for each site. Then repeat for every group size and room type to build a full rate sheet.

Season and festival surcharges

Sri Lanka has two main tourist seasons: the west and south coasts are busiest from December to April, while the east coast (Trincomalee, Pasikudah, Arugam Bay) peaks from May to September. Hotels raise rates in peak months and around Christmas, New Year and the Kandy Esala Perahera. Build season-specific rates and print a validity period on every quote.

Turn your costs into a rate table

Customers rarely ask for one price. They ask “what if we are four?” or “how much for a single room?”. A professional quote shows a per-person table, for example 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 pax in double, single and triple rooms. Shared costs (vehicle, driver, guide) are divided across the group, so the price per person drops as the group grows — until a larger vehicle is needed.

Frequently asked questions

How are private tours in Sri Lanka usually priced?
Most inbound operators price private tours by adding vehicle cost (kilometres × per-km rate), driver bata or chauffeur-guide fees per day, hotels by meal plan and room type, entrance fees and activities per person, and then applying a markup. The final price is shown per person for each group size.
What is driver bata in Sri Lanka?
Driver bata is a daily allowance paid to the driver or chauffeur-guide to cover meals and incidentals during a tour. It is charged per day and is usually added to the transport cost of the tour.
Should I quote Sri Lanka tours in USD or LKR?
Most international customers expect prices in USD, EUR or GBP, while many suppliers are paid in LKR. Quote in the customer's currency, record the exchange rate used, and keep a small buffer for currency movement.
Can software calculate Sri Lanka tour costs automatically?
Yes. TourRova includes Google Maps distance calculation, per-km vehicle rates, driver and guide fees, hotel rates and a list of popular Sri Lankan entrance fees, so a full tour can be costed in minutes.
